India to host 2023 world cup

Recently in the ICC event ICC declared its global events from 2015 to 2023 in which the BCCI was rewarded to host three events the T20 2016 world cup, the world test championship 2021 and the 2023 world cup. India was represented by Chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, who was also a former ICC president.


India will host the World T20 and the world test championship for the first time and the 50 over the world cup tournament for the fourth time which was announced by the international cricket council (ICC) on Saturday night. According to an ICC media release, the first edition of the world test championship will be staged in 2017 by England and Wales cricket board (ECB) in June-July 2017 while the second edition will be held in India in February-March 2021.

The world test championship will replace the Champions trophy, which India won recently beating England by 5 runs in the final at Birmingham’s Edgbaston ground.

India with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also hosted the 2011 world cup in which India beat Sri Lanka by 6 runs and won the world cup winning the cup for the second time. The last time was in 1983 in which India won by 43 runs against West Indies.

A total of 10 world cup tournament has been organized from 1975 to 2011, in which Australia has been the most successful team winning it for 4 times, India and West Indies have won it 2 times each and Sri Lanka and Pakistan 1 time each.  The next world cups will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand in 2015, and England and Wales in 2019. The 2023 World Cup will be held in India. England has the record of hosting the tournament for the most no. of times. England has hosted 4 times out of the 10 world cups till now. Sachin Tendulkar has the record of scoring the highest no. of runs in the world cup. He has scored a total of 3,278 (1992-2011).
