The wait is over. Team India’s squad for the mini-world cup is finally announced clearing all doubts over India’s non-participation at the ICC Champions Trophy as speculated by the media earlier. With this BCCI announcement, it is now confirmed that India will defend their title at the Champions Trophy 2017, in the UK to begin next month.
In ICC Champions trophy 2013, India emerged victorious at the gala finale beating England by just 5 runs. Batting first, India scored just 129, but in reply, England could put just 124 runs on the scoreboard courtesy fantastic last over from Ashwin giving a spectacular win to India.
BCCI Announces 15-Member Squad for Champions Trophy 2017
The monetary tussle, read revamped revenue sharing model, between the BCCI and ICC eventually engendered a situation when the BCCI was about to boycott this premiere ICC event, but timely intervention by the honourable Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has eventually brought a great relief to team India and fans.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India led by MSK Prasad has now announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in Mumbai a few hours back. Skipper Virat Kohli will lead the team at this gala ICC Championship aka mini-world cup.
The tournament will mark the comeback of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane while the rest of the team is similar to the Indian squad selected for India-England ODI series held earlier this year. No new face is introduced at the tournament.
Until now, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies have won the championship once while India and Australia have clinched the ICC Champions Trophy twice since its inception in 1998.
