In the gala finale of IPL 2017 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), experienced Rohit Sharma’s captaincy shone at the right time helping Men-in-blue clinch the IPL title for the third time in the history. By doing so, Rohit Sharma became the first IPL skipper to have won IPL tournament thrice.

IPL 2017 Winner Mumbai Indians
At a low scoring IPL finale 2017 in Hyderabad, Mumbai team successfully defended their modest total of 129 while batting first. Earlier, winning the toss, MI decided to bat first considering the enormous pressure associated with the final match. But the decision proved to be outright flop as Mumbai lost too many wickets too soon.
At one stage, MI were languishing at 79 for 7 at 14.1 overs, but some sensible batting from all-rounder Krunal Pandya and Mitchell Johnson have definitely pulled Mumbai Indians out of the trouble. The left-handed pair added 49-run partnership for the 8th wicket taking MI’s score get past 125. Eventually, at the end of 20th Over, MI finished set a target of 130 for RPS to chase.
On paper, the total looked quite modest and low as RPS have some big batsmen in its team. But some tight bowling by Mumbai pulled off a surprise winning the IPL 2017 gala finale by 1run at the last ball of the match. Ajinkya Rahane (44) and Steve Smith (51) tried their best but Mumbai eventually outwitted them. The right-handed duo added 54-run partnership for the 2nd wicket but nothing worked. Once Dhoni (10) and Manoj Tiwary (7) got out at the last over, Pune’s all hopes shattered.
