Which are the biggest mistakes in the IPL auction

The auction of players to build the IPL teams for the 2022 season has ended. It has seen a move where franchises are starting to go for fresh talent rather than experienced athletes with a track record of success.

Today, we want to tell you about the mistakes that have happened in the IPL auction throughout its journey, leading up to this year. This will give you a clear picture of the event and what is to come.

Mumbai Indians’ predictability during IPL 2022 auction

Mumbai Indians‘ tactics have become predictable over the years. But this year it has been most noticeable in applying waiting games in order to buy players at a better price.

Such is the case with Ishan Kishan, whom they signed at the end of the first day, and Jofra Archer, whom they signed on the second day.

Chennai Super Kings go for senior players in 2022

It is no secret that most franchises this year have opted to choose young talent over veteran cricketers.

Almost Chennai super Kings entire squad is made up of the same old players. This means that almost all the players are over the age of 33. And while this strategy may be effective, the fact is that not having young talent can take its toll sooner rather than later.

And why do we consider this to be a mistake? Because it has been seen season after season, and game after game, that after 30, most players begin to perform erratically and inconsistently. This, in some cases, has a lot to do with past injuries that begin to affect their performance on the pitch.

A heavily reliant middle-order and batting department in Delhi Capitals for this 2022

Delhi Capitals was one of the most active franchises in the 2022 auction. And while they managed to get some great players, they have a huge flaw in our view.

And that is that in some departments, they are almost totally dependent on their star players. Such is the case of Rishabh Pant as a middle order goal batsman. And also Anrich Nortje, the 28-year-old South African cricketer who plays as a star bowler.

In 2022 auction, Rajasthan Royals continue to struggle in the batting department

Rajasthan Royals have managed to get some great overseas players in this year’s auction for the IPL. This has made their bowling department exceptionally strong.

But this move, like previous years, has made their batting department really weak. In the bowling department, names like Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Prasidh Krishna stand out. But in the batting department, there are no real standout names.

Worst showing in 2022 auction goes to Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad have not bothered to bring in new talent, they have stuck with injured players or players over 30 years old. What’s more, they have only tried to improve their middle-order department very little. This has left them, in our opinion, with one of the teams with the fewest outstanding strengths.

The Lucknow Super Giants franchise has not bothered to have big name spinners among its ranks

We don’t know if this is because it is a new franchise, having only been founded in 2021.

But, Lucknow Super Giants, yet, has been preoccupied with having a strong batting team, with fast bowlers and even mysterious among its ranks.

Among the spinners they have, none of them is a real standout name. K Gowtham, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, and Shahbaz Nadeem are the ones who make up the spinners department within the team.

And mind you, we are not saying that they are bad players, but none of them is a star like the rest of the teams are used to having in every department.

Gujarat Titans almost forgot to buy a wicketkeeper

We don’t know if it was because it was their first mega auction in the competition as it was a new team.

But near the end, it was in the last two rounds of auctions that they tried to make amends by buying players Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade. Both players could become liabilities and play against that last-minute decision.

So although they have a strong batting and bowling department, their defense is quite poor and it could be a mistake that will cost them dearly as they will not be able to win any games.

Rajasthan Royals spent Rs. 3.8 crore at Riyan Parag

It is true that Riyan Parag’s performance last year was flawless and astounding. But his short run in the race gives no indication whether he will maintain the same performance and consistency in every match he plays this year.

That’s why, in our opinion, it seems like a waste of money. Riyan Parag is just 20 years old and although he plays with a batsman, his economy in bowling is 9.97, quite high and worrying.

Lucknow Super Giants have spent Rs. 7.5 crore on overseas player Mark Wood.

It is true that Mark Wood is a good player, but his performance is ordinary when compared to other players in the auction. What’s more, over the years, he has shown inconsistent performance with his line and length.

This is yet another decision that proves Lucknow Super Giants is a novice when it comes to the IPL auctions, as they have made one mistake after another during this giant event.

The Punjab Kings gambling on Liam Livingstone by hiring him for Rs. 11.50 crore

Liam Livingstone may be a star player in England, but in the 2021 edition of the IPL he performed rather poorly.

Yet, the Punjab Kings decided to take a risk and pay a hefty price in the hope that this season, Liam will return to the player of past seasons, where he has performed consistently and excellently.

SunRisers Hyderabad failed to retain Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan is the second best wicket-taker SRH had, but the team has decided to do without him for the new season. Which in our opinion is a big mistake as that department was almost exclusively dependent on Rashid Khan.
