This year’s IPL 2022 player auction has been quite close. And there are stars worth paying for. Today we want to tell you about the most expensive players in this season’s auction.
We have ranked them from most expensive to least expensive. And we will tell you a bit about each of them and the team that signed them.
#1 Ishan Kishan: ₹15.25 crore
Mumbai Indians have decided for the second time in their history to sign the most expensive player in the auction. Ishan Kishan, an Indian athlete, had a base price of INR 2 crore, but the bidding took his cost to INR 15.25 crore.
And who is Ishan Kishan? He is a left-handed opening batsman and keeper who is just 23 years old. He has featured in 61 IPL matches, scoring 56 innings, 1452 runs at an average of 28.47, and a strike rating of 136.34.
He participated in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup as captain of the Indian team in 2016 and managed to lead the team to second place.
And Ishan has managed to get victory in almost every match he participates in. He also manages to score off most of the balls.
#2 Deepak Chahar: ₹14 crore
Deepak Chahar is a right-arm medium-fast bowler and lower-middle order batsman, who was signed by Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2022.
He is 29 years old and has featured in 63 IPL matches. His career as a bowler includes having scored 1324 balls, 1722 runs, 59 wickets, an economy of 7.8, an average of 29.19, and a strike rating of 29.19.
He started his career at 16, but it was not until he was 18 that he achieved the prodigious career he has today. He has managed to emerge as a leading wicket-taker for the Indian A series. That is why his base price was 2 crores, and the bidding took him up to 14 crores.
#3 Shreyas Iyer: ₹12.25 crore
The Indian player, who had a base price of 2 crores, but thanks to his successful career, the Kolkata Knight Riders took the bidding to 12.25 crore to get him into their ranks.
Aged 27, he plays as a right-hand batting-style batsman. He has featured in 87 IPL matches, scoring 2375 runs at an average of 31.67 and a strike rating of 123.96.
And why has he become so famous? For his reckless and dominating stroke-play, his hand-eye coordination even in abrupt movements, comparing him to the legendary Virender Sehwag.
#4 Liam Livingstone: ₹11.50 crore
Despite being an overseas player, Liam Livingstone has managed to raise his base price from Rs. 1 crore to Rs. 11.50 crore and has been signed by the Punjab Kings.
Liam is a 28-year-old English player who plays as a right-handed opening batsman and occasional spin bowler.
His style of play is considered aggressive, as in just 9 IPL matches he has participated in, he has managed to score 112 runs as a batsman, with an average of 14.0 and a strike rating of 125.84.
His IPL debut was in 2019 when the Rajasthan Royals decided to sign him. A smart decision, as they managed to come 4th in the competition.
For the following year, SunRisers Hyderabad decided to hire him and the performance was even better, acting as batsman and bowler.
#5 Shardul Thakur: ₹10.75 crore
This Indian cricketer managed to raise his price base of Rs. 2 crores to 10.75 and was signed by Delhi Capitals.
Shardul is 30, a medium-fast bowler, and an able right-handed lower-order batsman.
His bowling career for the IPL includes 61 matches played, 1260 balls, 1867 runs scored, 67 wickets, an economy of 8.89, an average of 27.87, and a strike rate of 18.81.
His career took flight in the Ranji Trophy final in 2015-16 when he took 8 wickets and reached one of the most impenetrable defenses in the world.
#6 Wanindu Hasaranga: ₹10.75 crore
At 24, and now being hired by Delhi Capitals, Wanindu has made it to the topmost expensive players in the IPL 2022, despite being an overseas player from Pakistan.
He is an aggressive middle-order batsman, a leg break right-arm bowler, and his main role is as an all-rounder.
He has managed to appear in two IPL matches so far but has scored 60 runs. And how did he achieve that price? His career started in 2016 when he participated impressively in the Youth World Cup.
Then in 2016, he emerged as the leading run-scorer for Colombo cricket club with 765 runs in just 9 matches in the Premier League Tournament. He has also been named the man of the series for his efforts in the T20Is.
#7 Harshal Patel: ₹10.75 crore
Royal Challengers Bangalore bid against other teams from the base price of Rs. 2 crores, up to Rs. 10.75 to get Indian player Harshal Patel in their ranks.
He is 31 years old, and his role is as a bowler. He has participated in 63 IPL matches, bowling 1264 balls, scoring 1808 runs, 78 wickets. With an economy of 8.58 and an average of 23.18.
And what has made him special to get that price? His consistency in the game! Unlike other players in the same role or age, Patel has managed to be consistent and deliver quality performance every time he takes the field.
#8 Nicholas Pooran: ₹10.75 crore
Its base price was Rs. 1.50 crore. But Sunrisers Hyderabad wanted him so badly in their ranks that they ended up paying Rs. 10.75 crore.
Nicolas Pooran is an overseas player from Trinidad and Tobago. He is 26 years old and describes himself as a wicketkeeper-batsman, with a left-handed batting style.
He has played in 33 matches in the IPL, scoring 606 runs at an average of 22.44 and a strike rate of 154.99.
He is considered a prodigy as he rose to fame at 16 in the 2013 CPL, becoming the youngest player to ever play in the CPL.
#9 Lockie Ferguson: ₹10 crore
Founded only in 2021, Gujarat Titans want the best in their ranks. That is why it has bid from Rs. 2 crores to Rs. 10 crores in the auction to get New Zealand player Lachie Ferguson.
Ferguson, who is 30 years old, has his main role in the team as a bowler. His economy is 8.12 and he averages 27.0. He has also scored 648 runs, 479 balls in just 22 IPL matches.
His performance in the IPL has been simply clean. His variations are impressive and his fast bowler is one of the best.
#10 Avesh Khan: ₹10 crore
Avesh Khan managed to raise its price from a mere Rs. 20 lakhs to Rs. 10 crore thanks to its excellent performance.
The Indian player was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for the 2022 IPL season. Avesh is 25 years old and his main role is as a bowler.
He has participated in 25 IPL matches, scoring 546 balls, 749 runs, 29 wickets. With an economy of 8.23, an average of 25.83, and a strike rate of 18.83 his performance is simply impressive.
But what has made him stand out is his consistent performance. Besides the fact that he can reach 140 kmph when bowling a ball, he also has a wide variety of slow ball pitches.
#11 Prasidh Krishna: ₹10 crore
Pradish is an Indian player who raised his base price from Rs. 1 crore to Rs. 10 crore, and signed with Rajasthan Royals.
He is 26 years old and is a fast bowler who often manages to bowl at speeds in excess of 140 kmph.
He has featured in 34 IPL matches, scoring 746 balls, 1152 runs, 30 wickets. He has an economy of 9.27, an average of 38.4, and a bowling strike rate of 24.87.
#12 Kagiso Rabada: ₹9.25 crore
Last and not least in this list, we have 26-year-old South African overseas player, Kagiso Rabada, who was signed by Punjab Kings at Rs. 9.25 crore.
His base price was Rs. 2 crore, but being the youngest bowler to take 150 wickets in Test cricket, his performance shows that he is worth the price.
His primary role is as a bowler. In the IPL, he has participated in 50 matches, bowling 1140 balls, scoring 1560 runs, 76 wickets, with an economy of 8.21, an average of 20.53, and a bowling strike rate of 15.0.
